Number of terms: 26251
Number of blossaries: 0
Company Profile:
An international scientific society that fosters the transfer of knowledge and practices to sustain global soils. Based in Madison, WI, and founded in 1936, SSSA is the professional home for 6,000+ members dedicated to advancing the field of soil science. It provides information about soils in ...
The amount of nutrients needed to grow a specified yield of a crop plant per unit area.
Industry:Earth science
The guaranteed minimum analysis in percent of the major plant nutrient elements contained in a fertilizer material or in a mixed fertilizer. The analysis is usually designated as N-P2O5-K2O; but it may be N-P-K where permitted or required as specified by state law. Grades must be expressed in percent N-P-K for SSSA publications (oxide values may be included in parentheses).
Industry:Earth science
Waterlogged material or organic material that contains 7. 5 g kg-1or more of sulfide-sulfur.
Industry:Earth science
The strong adsorption of ions or molecules on a surface. Specifically adsorbed materials are not readily removed by ion exchange.
Industry:Earth science
The total opposition of a material (e.g., soil, copper wire) to items (e.g., roots, coleoptiles, water, electrons) moving through it.
Industry:Earth science
The cone-shaped tip used at the insertion end of soil penetrometer probes, following design criteria prescribed by the ASAE standard. Briefly, a 30 degree stainless steel cone having a basal diameter of either 20. 27 mm or 12. 83 mm.
Industry:Earth science
The line of separation, or the summit area, or narrow tract of higher ground that constitutes the watershed boundary between two adjacent drainage basins; it divides the surface waters that flow naturally in one direction from those that flow in the opposite direction.
Industry:Earth science
The ratio of exchangeable sodium to all other exchangeable cations.
Industry:Earth science
The process of determining the crop nutrient requirement at different soil test values.
Industry:Earth science
The plant root plus the adjacent soil that is influenced by the root.
