Abeam refers to addressing an object that is directly to the side of the boat. A lighthouse can be abeam.
Referring to an item or object that is above the deck. The rope is aloft.
A backstay is any single wire that supports the mast from the stern. Without a backstay, the mast would be vulnerable to break.
A bend refers to connecting two ropes with a knot. EX: Can you throw me a bend Gilligan?
A cleat is a fitting, usually attacked on the rail of a boat. The cleat is used to fasten rope without a knot. One may use a cleat to attach the boat to the dock.
The foremast refers to the mast closest to the bow of the boat.
The galley refers to the boat on a ship. Ex: Take this fish to the galley and cook something up.
