Lacrosse is a team sport that involves players either kicking or using sticks with nets to drive a small rubber ball into the goal of the opposing team. As with soccer, only the goalie can handle the ball. Men's lacrosse teams consist of 10 players, while women's teams comprises 12 members. Various North American Indians are credited with developing the first form of Lacrosse. In 1867, a Montreal native established the first lacrosse rules and eventually the game became a popular amateur and professional sport in many English-speaking countries, including the United States.

slap check

When a player snaps his wrists in order to slap their stick powerfully against an opponentís hands, usually the offensive player who has the ball.

signal flag

This is a flag used by the umpire to signal when a foul has been committed.

screen

When an offensive player who does not have the ball puts themselves in front of the opposing teams goal crease to try block the opposing goalkeeper's view from any shot that is taken on their goal.

scoring play

When one team takes the ball and attempts to score by shooting the ball at the goal. See Rules of the Game for a complete explanation.

scooping

The way a player will try and pickup a ball that is loose on the ground. They will try and get the pocket underneath the ball and scoop it into the netting.

roll dodge

When an offensive player, who has the ball and has their body between the defensive player and the ball, quickly spins around the defender.

riding

When players on one team will try to keep the other team from clearing the ball.
