Home > Blossary: Edict
Edict is decree, order, thus we have Edict of President of Republic, on a crucial national affair, can be referendum, or decisionon elections etc.
There are also religious edicts apart from political ones; for ex.the Edict of Nantes, in 1572 in France, after religious war between Catholics and Protestants, claiming religious independence, and consessing also other rights to 'minority' of Protestants in France that time.
We have had also well known Edicts in History, like the one of 312 of Mediolanon, (Mediolana=city of N.State of Rome of that time, A.C, by King Konstantinos the Great, who inaugurated and introduced Christianity in Roman Empire of that time as official religion, before transferring capital of Roman Empire to Constantinople, in 335 A.C.
Generally in states where there is King, edicts are edited by King..(in the past, throughout history)
