Earn is verb and means for ex. 'earn money'=make money from work, any job. We also say 'earn a living' is be able to live from money of a job Earnings, is deriving word, and means money from a job, work. Earn has a more general meaning, of ''win'=earn a prize from something, or for something, thus 'win a prize' We also say 'net earnings' for ex. net amount of money after tax, while we say 'gross earnings' mixed amount, before tax. We also say 'earn revenues, income' from a job. or work generally.
