magazine

A construction for magazine-fed firearms consisting of a shaped box and a spring-loaded follower to advance ammunition towards the receiver. Most magazines are also equipped with an upper lip to prevent premeture ejection of unused cartridges prior to loading and charging of the firearm. Usually constructed from lightweight metal or reinforced polycarbonate to maintain a decent strength to weight ratio and therefore preserve reliability.
