legacy hedge
A hedge position that is held by a company for an extended time period. Typically gold and oil producers carry legacy hedges on their reserves in order to give them a more stable stream of revenue. This is because the hedge will provide price guarantees. A legacy hedge has the ability to become either extremely positive or negative to a company, depending upon the movement of market prices over time.
