direct democracy
The purest form of a democratic government in which all citizens participate in all governmental functions and decisions. Citizens directly decide on policy and laws they wish to be implemented rather than elected representatives. Such system is also known as 'pure democracy' and exists in Switzerland. Direct democracy allows for the power of government to lie specifically in the hands of the people.
