badnjak

Badnjak (Christmas oak log) is an ancient Serbian Christmas custom, where the oldest male member of the household chops an oak log early on Christmas morning. The log may or may not be brought to church to be blessed, and is then used as a decoration. Once Christmas festivities are over, the log is burned, symbolically representing the members of the household dropping wood into the fire that made infant Christ warm.
