Released in late 2006 at age 16, Taylor Swift is the debut album of country pop singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. She wrote the songs, including some co-written with Liz Rose, for her debut album during her freshman year of high school. The album was released by Big Machine Records after her experiments recording the album with several album producers, ultimately choosing the producer of her demo album, Nathan Chapman.
Musically, the album is country music styled and lyrically, it speaks of romantic relationships, a couple of which Swift wrote from observing relationships before being in one. Swift's considerably strong voice straddles that delicate edge that both suggests experience far beyond her years, and simultaneously leaves a fresh, still girlish voice, full of hope and naïveté.
Taylor Swift was received positively by contemporary critics and enjoyed commercial success. It rose to number five on the Billboard 200, ranking number 1 on the Top Country Albums Chart for twenty-four non-consecutive weeks, and was certified five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Taylor Swift continued to be ranked on the Billboard Top 200 / Pop Albums chart since its release, making it one of the 12 longest-running albums in the chart's fifty-seven year history.
