Pixar Animation Studios is an American computer animation film studio based in California. Pixar is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.

Pixar animation films have received critical acclaim and most of Pixar's films have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Seven of them won the nomination, and those are some of the best-known Pixar's pictures: "Finding Nemo", "The Incredibles", "Ratatouille", "WALL-E", "Up", "Toy Story 3", "Brave", "Mosters Inc." and "Cars".

Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs became Pixar's majority shareholder in 1979. Then in 2006, The Walt Disney Company bought Pixar for $7.4 billion. This was a transaction that made Steve Jobs Disney's largest shareholder.

Facts:

- Pixar’s first animated short The Adventures of André and Wally B. was produced in 1984.

- Pixar’s iconic lamp mascot is named Luxo Jr., and it is named after a 1986 short of the same name.

- Tom Hanks was interested in the role of Woody because as a child he always wondered whether his toys came alive when he wasn’t looking.
