Looking for a way to link San Fransisco with Marin County, the Golden Gate bridge was a dream that came to life, and opened to the public in 1937. The strong winds and deep water, combined with thick fog, made the bridge seem impossible to build. The suspended safety netting was designed by Joseph Strauss, this saved the lives of 19 workmen.
