Nigerian town Agadez

Nigerian town Agadez is a gateway to Sahara and the home for all kinds of smugglers. African migrants start their journey for better life right there but sometimes their dreams end in disillusion because to cross the Sahara desert they need certain amount of money to be paid to smugglers to help them cross the desert. But money is what they don't have. So they are either stuck in the town waiting for money sent by their relatives or start to angage in different kind of degrading jobs, considerable number of young women have become sex workers for instances just to have the chance to survive.

How much are the smugglers earning doing this kind of business? One of them admits that the fee for the ride all the way to Libya is $500 but there is another $300 which must be taken into account because these money will be used to bribe the police at all checkpoints. Getting a credit is also possible but that means that the migrant will end up paying double price on arrival.

Making it through Sahara desert is a big thing but it still doesn't mean that the migrants were successful in pursuing their dreams. Loads of them have the experience of being kidnapped by militiamen, sold to the police and thrown in jail for up to six months in Libya where they were beaten and starved, and eventually deported. Some even get a chance to cross the Mediterranean Sea but that also fail in many cases.

For many Africans will Europe remain just a life dream which they will never get a chance to come to know better.
