An icon is a two dimensional representation of Jesus Christ, saints or biblical events. As opposed to religious imagery, icons have very strict rules on how to paint them and who who can paint them. Icons are generally flat, lacking three dimensional depth, which is why they're often called "windows into heaven". They adorn Eastern Christian churches and homes.

Essi adornano case e chiese cristiane orientali.
